Shirley Brasil was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, in 1969. Living in Tampa/FL – USA since November 2007. In 1999 she graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from PUC Minas (Catholic University of Minas Gerais State). She worked as an Architect for many years, but right after she graduated she realized that painting was so important that she needed to give it a try, so therefore nowadays she dedicates only to painting. While she was studying Architecture, she studied Fine Arts with Fernando Palma and Special Painting Techniques with Fernando Vignoli. After many years of training with renowned masters, Shirley has finally become a full-time artist and keeps a large and steady flow of artistic production which is displayed to the public in many up-market galleries throughout Brazil and USA. Transition is the concept title for paintings created by Shirley Brasil, having leaves as their theme. They illustrate the ephemeral character expressed by the title once they are the nature’s clock. The artist uses colors to light the leaves which are little portrayed and present a wide range of colors, textures, shapes and smells. The idea of painting leaves began long time ago when she collected leaves and flowers inside book pages. Maybe, her intention was to perpetuate some moments and deny transition. Another relevant factor was that, in her researches, she concluded that artists are used to painting trees, flowers, fruits but never leaves. So, the idea arose to show, through art, this part of nature that nobody pays attention to. After she studied hard, she created her own painting technique, using acrylic paint and many materials over textures to paint her leaves. Nowadays, she has also paints acrylic and oil on canvas.
